The deeper I dig into VN area, the better things I get. This time it’s a visual Novel called Narcissu.

“This is a story of disease and suffering; of medication and adverse effects; of thoracotomy scars and cellular poisons; of the living who cannot help but to die and of the dying who cannot help but to live; of a resting place other than “on 7F” or “at home”.

Narcissu had no choices as the two games before (but I knew it beforehand this time, luckily) and it was over almost before I knew it… But it left a deep impact.

In this VN, we are once again in the first person. Person of a young boy, 20 years old, who is going to die. No chances to cure. In hospital, he meets a little older girl, who is on her path to death as well. And they run away, steal a car and just simply run away. Because they “don’t want to die at F7. Don’t want to die at home, full of fake smiles as well…” F7 being the part of the hospital where they are wardened in.

They drive through the land… strive in the search for some money… and finally go for the Awaji island, on which Narcissi grow. The girl is silent most of the time, but still we can see how they become to grow a bond to each other… But their journey has other target than eternal love…

The main screen is pretty minimalized and has only narrow strip of actual visual content. Under it are max. 4 lines of text, so the most of the screen is black. There are also two versions of the game, voiced and unvoiced (in English it’s done greatly by each being translated by another person from insani). I have finished the voiced one and in future I plan to play even the unvoiced one.

This said, it helps awesomely to your imagination. Almost no images of the girl, only image of you, no images of other people… you can let your imagination run wild… and if you do, this game has great impact on you.

The music helps, it matches the mood perfectly and can bring you to tears after finishing the game by itself.

All in all, I’d say Narcissu is a great masterpiece which you shouldn’t let run by…
